ETS has operated both in Rabat, Casablanca and throughout Morocco, for over 8 years. In doing so, we have covered a wide variety of tasks from supporting VIP and High Net Worth clients and their families on secure vacations through to providing a secure environment for filming and secure transport of film crew and equipment. We have covered secure business transport for large organisations as well as providing executive protection teams for secure airport transfers. The vast majority of clients traveling to Morocco request English speaking security drivers, high quality, modern vehicles, and local service providers to support group travel.
We have worked extensively throughout the country, providing security transport services, Executive Protection (both overt and covert protection), and logistical support. For Executive Protection services we utilize UK based team leaders to work closely with local assets and ensure quality control and robust, organized logistical management.
ETS Security Overview - Morocco
Morocco is generally considered a stable country in North Africa, with a robust security environment. The government maintains a high level of control and cooperation with international partners to mitigate threats, particularly in counterterrorism. However, like any country, Morocco faces risks, particularly from terrorism, political unrest, and petty crime. Its proximity to regions with heightened security concerns, such as the Sahel and Western Sahara, also contributes to the broader security landscape. While Morocco is a popular destination for tourists and businesses, visitors should remain vigilant and aware of evolving security threats.
Terrorism remains the primary security threat in Morocco, though the country has been highly proactive in dismantling terrorist cells and thwarting planned attacks. Morocco’s intelligence services and security forces, in cooperation with international partners, have successfully disrupted numerous extremist networks. Despite this, the risk of terrorism cannot be completely discounted, particularly in light of ongoing regional instability in North Africa and the Sahel. The primary terrorist threat stems from Islamic extremist groups, including local cells influenced by Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (ISIS). These groups are primarily focused on destabilizing regional governments and targeting Western interests.
Rabat, the capital of Morocco, is one of the country’s key political, administrative, and cultural centers. Compared to other major Moroccan cities, such as Casablanca and Marrakesh, Rabat is generally regarded as one of the lowest risk cities, with lower crime rates and fewer incidents of civil unrest. However, as the seat of government and home to many diplomatic missions, the city faces a variety of security risks, including terrorism, political protests, and cyber threats. The city’s stability is supported by strong governmental security forces, but visitors and residents should remain vigilant, especially in high-profile areas.
Like other Moroccan cities, Rabat is subject to the broader regional threat of terrorism. Morocco's government has made significant strides in counterterrorism, with numerous operations aimed at dismantling terrorist cells throughout the country. However, extremist groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda affiliates still pose a risk.
Pickpocketing and bag snatching are the most common crimes targeting tourists and expatriates. These incidents often occur in crowded areas, such as markets, souks, and transportation hubs. Visitors should take precautions to secure their belongings and avoid flashing valuables in public. Tourists in Rabat have been targeted by scam artists, especially near popular tourist sites. Unofficial tour guides, street vendors, and taxi drivers may attempt to overcharge or take advantage of visitors unfamiliar with the area.
Morocco has a poor road safety record. In 2013, nearly 4,000 people were killed and over 100,000 injured as a result of traffic incidents. Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) are a major concern. Driving in Morocco can be erratic, aggressive, and even reckless. It is common to see vehicles driving counter-flow into oncoming traffic and ignoring stop signs or traffic signals.
